1. Acceptance
You confirm that you are legally able to enter a binding agreement where you live, or that a parent or guardian accepts these Terms on your behalf if you are a minor who may use the Services only with supervision. You also confirm that you have read our Privacy Policy in the app and understand how we process personal data.
2. The Services
The Services may include account-based features such as quizzes, multimedia learning modules, reading materials, writing prompts and submissions, progress and history, optional push notifications, in-app support tickets, and paid subscription plans. Where enabled, the Services may also include tutoring bookings, private learner–tutor chat (including text, voice messages, and shared learning materials), and optional invite or referral links and codes you can share so others can register with your invitation. Features available to you depend on your account type, plan, and administrator configuration. We may add, change, or remove features to improve security, compliance, or user experience.
3. Accounts and security
You must provide accurate registration information and keep your password and device secure. You are responsible for activity under your account unless you prove unauthorized access despite reasonable care. Optional “quick sign-in” or biometric unlock stores credentials only on your device if you enable it. Notify us through Support if you suspect compromise. We may require password changes or additional checks for certain roles.
4. Acceptable use
You must not: (a) attempt unauthorized access to the Services, other users’ data, or our infrastructure; (b) interfere with or disrupt servers, networks, or security; (c) upload malware or misuse APIs; (d) scrape or automate access in a way that harms performance or bypasses limits; (e) reverse engineer the app except where mandatory law allows; (f) use the Services for unlawful, harassing, discriminatory, or infringing purposes; (g) misuse tutoring chat or other messaging features to harass, threaten, spam, share illegal or sexual content, or solicit outside the intended learning or tutoring purpose; (h) abuse invite or referral features (for example creating fake accounts, referring yourself, or manipulating attribution). Community Guidelines (where shown in the app) apply to tutoring chat and related media. We may investigate abuse and suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules.
5. Content you submit
When you submit quiz answers, text, files, images, audio, support messages, tutoring chat messages (including voice notes and shared materials), or other materials, you represent that you have the right to submit them and that they do not violate law or third-party rights. You remain responsible for your submissions. Authorized administrators and moderation staff may review content for teaching, grading, safety, or moderation. We may remove or restrict content that violates these Terms, Community Guidelines, or poses risk.
6. Results and learning output
Scores, feedback, and progress indicators are provided for learning support only. They are not an official language certificate, immigration credential, or professional licensing document unless we expressly state otherwise in writing for a specific program.
7. Paid plans and payments
Some features require a paid plan. Prices, duration, and taxes (if any) are shown before you confirm a purchase. When you proceed to pay, you will be redirected to your payment institution’s secure website or a licensed payment processor’s hosted checkout; card and authentication data are collected only there, not by us. Successful payments unlock access for the stated period. Unless we clearly offer auto-renewal for your region and you opt in, plans are not silently renewed—you may need to purchase again after expiry. Refund rules follow the payment provider and any terms shown at checkout.
8. Invite and referral links
Where available, you may share a personal invite link or referral code so others can create an account. Sharing an invite does not transfer your account rights or grant access to another user’s account. When a new user registers using a valid invite code under our rules, we may record that they were invited by you. You must not create fake accounts, refer yourself, or otherwise manipulate invite attribution. We may limit, suspend, or disable invite features to prevent abuse. Any optional benefits connected to invites, if offered later, will be described in the app at that time and may change; these Terms do not promise any specific reward, payment, or credit for inviting others.
9. Third-party services
The Services rely on third parties (for example hosting, email, payment processors, Google Firebase for push notifications, YouTube for embedded videos, and analytics or security tools on servers). Their terms and privacy notices apply when you use those features. See the Privacy Policy for more detail.
10. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains what personal data we process, for what purposes, retention, your rights, and international transfers. It is part of your understanding of the Services. The Privacy Policy is available in the app and may be updated from time to time.
11. Changes to the Services and these Terms
We may modify the Services or these Terms. Material changes to the Terms will be reflected in the in-app text where practicable. If you continue to use the Services after changes take effect, you accept the updated Terms. If you do not agree, you must stop using the Services and may delete your account where the app allows.
12. Suspension and termination
You may stop using the Services and request account deletion where available. We may suspend or terminate access if you breach these Terms, if we must comply with law, or if continued provision would create undue risk. Upon termination, access may end and data may be deleted or anonymized subject to law and the Privacy Policy.
13. Intellectual property
The app, branding, and learning materials are protected by copyright, trademark, and other laws. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the Services for private learning. You may not copy, sell, publicly perform, or create derivative works from our content except as allowed by law or with our written permission.
14. Disclaimer
The Services are provided “as is” and “as available”. We do not warrant uninterrupted or error-free operation or that content is complete or up to date for every jurisdiction. Your learning results depend on many factors outside our control.
15. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of the Services. Where liability cannot be excluded, our aggregate liability is limited to the amount you paid us for the Services in the twelve months before the claim (or, if none, a nominal amount), except where mandatory consumer law provides otherwise.
16. Applicable law and disputes
Unless mandatory local law gives you non-waivable rights in your country of residence, these Terms are governed by the laws indicated by the publisher in the About section or in separate written agreement with your organization, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Courts or arbitration in that jurisdiction may have exclusive venue unless consumer law requires otherwise.

Effective date
These Terms apply from the date shown in the app build or as updated in this screen. Your continued use after updates constitutes acceptance unless applicable law requires a different process.
18. Speak with AI (DEXI) and other AI features
Where enabled, the Services may include “Speak with AI” practice with our in-app assistant DEXI (voice and/or text), AI-assisted writing review drafts for administrators, and related AI tools. These features may send audio (streamed directly from the app during a voice session), transcripts, prompts, answers, CEFR level, topic text, and technical session metadata to our AI provider (currently OpenAI) to generate replies, transcriptions, or review suggestions. Deutsch Lernen does not store DEXI voice audio. We do not send your email, phone number, payment card data, or password to the AI provider for these features. AI output is for learning support only and is not an official certificate. You must not use Speak with AI to harass others, to submit unlawful content, or to attempt to extract system instructions. Session length and remaining minutes depend on your plan, complimentary grants, and any purchased speaking-minute packages. Unused minutes may expire according to plan rules shown in the app. We may disable or limit AI features for safety, cost, or compliance.
19. Tutoring, chat, and purchases of speaking minutes
Where tutoring is enabled, bookings, private learner–tutor chat (text, voice notes, shared materials), ratings/reviews, and safety tools (report/block) are part of the Services and subject to Community Guidelines. Where available, you may purchase additional Speak with AI minutes (including via platform store products or complimentary admin grants). Prices and terms are shown before purchase. Minute packs are consumable digital content; refunds follow the store or payment provider rules and any terms shown at checkout.
